It really depends on a lot of factors, if for you interior isn't a big deal, if the car displays well, if the interior from a display point of view doesnt look any different than an elite, then its no issue. Personally I find the interior of a model just as important often displaying with doors open, so I would prefer to go for Elite quality or better whenever possible.

IMHO, don't get the foundation model. When the Elite series first came out, I too thought they were overpriced and decided to get the foundation FXX, SuperAmerica, 430 Scuderia and 599 GTB. I was appalled by plastic doors, engine cover, and trunk. The interior looks unpleasant as well. Sold all of them and only buy Elite models now. I think they're worth the extra money, but maybe that's just me

I agree, I don't buy the foundations any more. Totally worth the money.

Aren't "foundation" models exactly that, foundations??? Or should they have PE parts and such? I think it is a brilliant marketing strategy by a toy company. Satisfy a want early on in a cycle and that customer will graduate to want/expect more. The only problem that I have with them is that they are hardly available at any big-box retail anymore.

Should Toyota not make any more Corollas since the Camrys and Avalons sell?

I agree with Al, the Foundation models are good for the hobby with a lower $ entry point. You'll also notice that Hot Wheels takes more of a gamble on color choices for the Foundation series as well, like the white 599 GTO, the grey and blue XX's, the light blue and matte black 458. Plus, the rims on the 599 are good enough just to buy the car for a mod project. I HIGHLY recommend the Foundation.

I agree. If down the road you were to become a more serious collector, you might regret that you didn't pay a little extra for the Elites. Then, you'll end up spending more money in the future upgrading all of your foundation Ferrari's. This happened to me atleast.

You AUTOart leg-humping "modelist" make me laugh! I have been collecting longer than you have been alive, have 2,500-2,600 1/18 models, have spent a fortune in the hobby, yet I won't be a "serious" collector until a get rid of my 30-40 base Hot Wheels and add to my 8-10 Elites?

The Elite series is the best value on the market right now IMHO. Don't waste your money on the Foundation series
Why is it a waste off MY money??? I bought about 800 $20 Ertls before anything better came out, did I waste MY money??? Do I have to get rid of them in order to enjoy my GMPs, Lanes, Authentics and Highway 61s???
Ferraris are very low in my collectability effort, so in order to be a "serious" collector I have to buy Elites or nothing?? Anything that looks good enough from 3-feet away will do for me on those models. Had you said: "I won't waste MY money on Foundation series" you would have no argument from me.

Tony, very funny!

Holy shit dude, relax. I thought this forum was for people to post their opinions and help others who also enjoy this hobby? And yes, I believe the foundation series is a waste of money since the Elites (most of them) are rather low priced. An AUTOart or Kyosho of similar quality costs about twice as much.

I have 2 foundation models....Ferrari 458 in matte black and a 599 GTO in white.....why you ask cause they are not offered in the Elite... To me the foundations look just as good as the Elites WHEN viewed in my cabinets....and yes I have many Elite models....

I am relaxed, DUDE!

This forum is that, but it is not one created for some members to disparage other collector's choices. Who are you to tell some other member that they "wasted" their money??? Like I said above, if you said: "I wouldn't waste MY money..." then more power to you.
So, is a kid (or heck an adult) that can't afford a string of Elites (since he wasn't born with a silver spoon like some here were) then they should not enjoy DX and display their collection because they are not "serious" collector???

I do agree, the Elites are a great value, as I have several myself, but that does not take away from what the Foundation offers or their place in the market/hobby. Read the original question. The OP knows the value of the Elite, he just wanted pictures to see for himself.
