·I don't know if it gets any better than this for oldies fans. A genuine Kaiser Manhattan done the Highway 61 way, with lots of working features and a finessed shape and stance that look just right.

This one carries all of the visual impact and offbeat character of the '51 Studebaker and early 'fifties Hudsons that Highway 61 has given us so far, and like those models, it's detailed to the nines in just about every visible area. The chrome is great, including the foil-based appliques for the model's badging and the trim around the expansive, peaked greenhouse.

Working features include spring-and scissor hinges for the hood, a working suspension and rotating driveshaft (that also links to the engine fan - which, for the first time on a Highway 61, actually rotates in the correct direction, LOL!) opening doors, hood, and trunk, a poseable antenna, poseable vent windows (two per side - the rears pose, too), an opening gas door, a tilting/sliding seat, poseable visors, and an opening glove box. And the spare hides beneath a removable hatch in the trunk floor. What a loaded model!

The interior looks great, with a carpeted floor, a beautifully detailed dash, and tidy mats on the floor. I love the pattern cast into the Carlton Spencer-designed dash, door, and package tray coverings in here - these really pop, and looked great on the brown Kaiser on display at Toy Fair a few months ago.

Engine wise - and I apologize for the lack of a decent image - Highway 61 has done their usual bang-up job, and the rendering of the flathead 6 is fully piped and wired, all the way to the battery cables. It's a little difficult to see under here, but taking the model to a strong light and checking out the goods is worth it - especially the neatly wrought manifolding and soft vinyl heater hoses. I wonder if Supercar will slap twin Strombergs on and do an all-black Pro-street version? Kidding, guys, kidding.

It's all good, from headlights to tailpipe. The fit and finish are great, the paint is smooth and clearcoated, and the model itself is going to make a lot of folks - me included - very happy, in every color and trim level they offer it in. I'm happy to display this Cerulian blue/Peacock blue - and I can't wait for the wire-wheeled model in Copper Dust metallic/Australian beige or the third variant, in Jade Tint. Maybe we'll even get a Dragon, someday, with a "Bambu" roof. That'd be smokin'.
'Til then, I'm happily taking in the sights offered by this early production sample. The cars should be here soon, at an MSRP of $49.99 each. Great stuff!
