Great review there Tony though is it me or does the HWE look a little narrower than the CMC - or is this due only to the darker hue making it seem slimmer?
The details look very good nonetheless.
Seeing the Moss TT winner released is awesome, like you I have wanted CMC to create one of their own but this will do nicely.
You'll find interior SWB's all over the place, back in the day they were still very much bespoke to the owners taste. But I will say that the 250's I've seen in person or in mag's have been either black or tan. Having a red one is very much a 50's throwback and I like it! You could go crazy trying to pinpoint the exact 1:1 they used to model the replica, I say just sit back and enjoy it. I prefer the red!
Nice review. I see no point in getting this when I have the CMC, as it's far superior but so is the price. However I may consider the competizione version depending on how the stance is after I see more pics of the model.
Amen Tony. Finally people are starting to realize that the recent Elites are worth their price and are no longer the toys made by the barbie maker they used to be.
I have two CMC 250SWB, a red street and the LM winner Comp. I would love to add the Moss car that I always wanted when it comes out.
Thank you for the great review and congrats for another truebread in your stable.
Now Mattel just need to do more "real" Ferraris.
A great review, especially the side to side comparison with HWE and CMC versions. My father (also a collector) definitely thinks it would better to hold out for the CMC version but my wallet made the HWE decision for me. It's good enough and better than most in my collection. After reading your opinions, I pulled the trigger and bought the HWE in blue which I think is a lovely and interesting colour.
On the issues of the slight differences in here and there between the CMC and HWE versions, it's worth remembering that the the coach builder did everthing by hand and eye and judgement and no two 1/1 versions would be the same either.
Not much reletive to this thread but; has anyone try to get rid of thoose ugly headlamp connectors on CMC 250 SWB ? Even Elite version has not got them. I try it on my Hot Wheels Lusso, much succeed IMO but aware touching to CMC one.
Yes i read it and applied to my street 250, it was easy, but that thread was for normal (old-produced) CMC 250's which had only fogging problems due to the glue CMC used (not lamp connectors/ the black dots). I want to learn if anyone has dissasambled the new-produced CMC 250's lamps (like #14). Anyway if there is someone please write down here or send a pm.
Is it me or Elite models are getting better and better lately?
I got the Dino and the 348 last week and I'm really pleased. If you add the 458 it seems they moved up to the Autoart level and of course they raised their prices as everyone else.

I have been trying to say this for over a year now. They have raised their quality more than anyone and raised their prices less than anyone.

Having seen many paint and quality issues I was less than a fan also I think that built quality was sometimes similar to the hotwhells foundation series for double price. I was very reluctant when I heard that they changed their moulds and build quality and I thought that it's just a marketing trick. I was only persuaded when I put a 458 besides a BBR 458 and I desided to keep the Elite!
To my way of thinking, the Hot Wheels is nice enough that it isn't worth the extra gelt one would have to spend for the CMC. I think they could have done a bit better with the wheels however.
The Moss car would be great to have. I believe that it was one of the S.E.F.A.C. cars, but I don't think there were any outward visual differences between one of the S.E.F.A.C.'s and a "regular" SWB. I will have to investigate. . .
Agreed, Hot Wheels has stepped it as much as we could expect. If they did Lambo's/Porsche's/Lotus/Muscle at this quality level I guarantee that AUTOart & Kyosho would be out of business or on the ropes.

I agree Eddie, when I did the side by side on their SWB's the niceties that the CMC offers begins to make you question if the upgrades are truly worth 2-4x the price.
Sadly, on the 250's California's they had the best wire wheels but then they made them inferior in later releases which I am assuming is a cost cutting measure. That's a bad move on their part if they want to take business away from Kyosho and CMC.
