I was searching...and searching in the Customs section a couple nights ago, trying to find who did this beautiful conversion of an old Trans Am Mustang into a Pro Touring style "California" car when I finally found out who and what. The person was 512 which I had a hard enough time finding, but the car was a Mustang made by Welly. Apparently they made some quality models in the past, but when? how long ago? I hadn't seen these T/A Mustangs until recently and they LOOK pretty detailed. My question is this, Has Welly been around in other parts of the world (not the U.S.) and do they have different ranges of detail? Or...Are they all the detail level I see....discounted at KB. If so, why are the T/A's so much? Also (I know this is getting long), on some sites the T/A's are listed as GMP's. I'm confused because they are the exact same colors and numbers. Can someone answer my long confusing question?!

Welly have been making 1:18ths since 2000-2001 I think, but they have been a toy maker for longer than that. They are based in China (Hong Kong I think) and decided to enter the 1:18th market a few years ago.

Most are not that great I have to say, even for budget models.

Their first attempt at a quality 1:18th model was this 1969 spec TransAm Mustang, made initially for an Australian company associated with Allan Moffat whose 1969 Mustang with Coca-Cola logos was the subject modeled. I have one of these models and it is not bad, but really no better than an average Maisto.

GMP did a deal with Welly to make TransAm versions of the '69 Mustang, as driven by Dan Gurney, George Follmer and Parnelli Jones. These are nice looking models but are GMPs in name only and are essentially the same as the original Welly release.

Ronan...you ARE truly The Man! I can't believe you took all my questions and told me Exactly what I wanted to know. I was expecting something vague and randomly put together when I checked this, but your answer is perfect...thank you quite a bit. Now for a 2nd question that I'm not expecting good news on...is there any way I can still get one of these Moffat Mustangs?

:cheers Blitz I got the Moffet car from Exoticar last year...it was supposed to be limited run...I believe 500 pieces! Good luck! If you like "California style" road racy hot rods, I have a 69 Mach 1, I think diecastx posted a photo of it for me when I first joined. If you like, I could email you a couple photos of it.

No problem Blitz!!! Always glad to help out!

The Moffat car comes in 2 versions, the original (which I have) was very pricey for the quality of model, and had the correct Coca-Cola markings and came in a Moffat marked box. (I'll take pics of it tomorrow and post them here on DX, so watch this space!!! :cheers )

The other version was practically identical but lacked the Coca-Cola decals plus the "Moffat" name on it, but was far cheaper.

Have a look at

Gateway Models

which I where I got my one. They often have hard to find diecast (Australian that is) in stock, but if they only have a few of them they tend to jack up the price...

Hope you find one!!!

:danbanna Hey Blitz! You can see my collection, and some of the mods Ive done to different cars to create a pro touring car at www.ofoto.com, go to the album section and look at "Robs diecast cars"...Also go to pro-touring.com to see my 1:1 69 rs/ss camaro (robert chatmans 69 rs/ss project), that site is fantastic. for checking out the real thing. If those fail I can also still email you, but I need your email address :nicejob

You can always get a blank decal sheet, make your own Moffat, Cola, and other markings yourself. You can then turn a red #1 T/A to the more expensive Moffat T/A Mustang. :danbanna :danbanna :danbanna

It's a great model for 30 or even 50 dollars. It does not worth 200 dollars. (ALL CURRENCY IN USD).

Yeah, I took a look at the Gateway link and actually did see the Coca Cola version and the Brut version that also looks good. It's a shame that they are so expensive. If they were in the GMP or Exoto detail range I could maybe see eventually tricking myself into buying one or both, but 200 dollars for one seems too high. I think that puts these two on the List of Unobtainable Cars above the McLarens I want. I think I might order one of the newer ones to judge the quality so my conscious doesn't go crazy from pure curiousity.

Ok, I was very excited today when I got a UPS package. (actually forgot about it) I decided to revive this thread as sort of an update. Well, I ordered one of the GMP/Welly Trans Am Mustangs...#16 Red/white/black. (sorry no pics) I was suprised at the weight of it and was also content with the level of detail for this model. If I can find the other two at a relatively low price I'll def. order them too. As for the Coca Cola and Brute versions....that's probably out of my splurging range. I may even order an extra one or two to do a customize job like 512. If anyone can post a pic of the T/A Mustangs, it'd be kewl, because I'm sure my description just doesn't do a Picture any justice.

Here is the #15.
There is a simple way to raise the front of the car a bit as Welly made it too low.
All that is needed is to remove a few screws and insert some small washers or shims between the spring and the chassis.
Makes a world of difference!

Thanks a million peter!!! (aka C7!!!) That looks excellent!!! I really wish I knew how to make superb banners like some of you guys can!!!

I think it is pretty much perfect, although would it be possible to pick out my name in a lighter/brighter colour just to see what it looks like??? (Knowing me I'll probably prefer it the way it is now!!!)

Once again thanks a million!!! :cheers :cheers :cheers
