Hi there all. I have some Ertl trucks with these wheels on (you can get them from Collectablediecast.com) and they are about 20 inches in 1/18th scale. They come with brake calipers and thin metal axles, so they could go on Dub style cars easily. I don't use the axles as I like my drive train to be as accurate to 1:1 as possible.
Here is a pict of the truck that I have modded to fit the new rims. I have also used the same technic on an Ertl Dodge Ram and it should also work well on most other models (Bburagos, Maistos etc). I do think that these wheels are a little too large for most 1/18th scale cars, but they suit trucks very well. You can get the wheels with spinner hubs on too.
and here is a pict of the end reult
The wheels come in this packet
and this is what you get inside
Here is a pict of the original suspension from the Dodge Warlock. Note the "spindles" sticking out from the axles that the Ertl wheels would be attached to.
To get the axles ready I cut off the spindles and files down the surface so it was flat, in order to glue on the brake calipers.
Then I glued on the calipers to the axles like so:
The wheels have a stub which needs to be cut down like so:
See how the wheel fits in flat when the stub has been cut down?
Now you can just slip the wheel into the round slot in the caliper which is glued to the axle. The wheels turn and spin (though they can fall off). I painted the calipers red and I think the result looks good. Note that the trucks has not been lowered (at this stage......).
Here is a comparison shot (not that good though, I WILL have to get on and make a photo studio)
Hope that helps Lance! I forgot to get a shot of a caliper by itself, I will try to get tonight.
:cheers
