I made my own parking lot...

I have been busy all day making my own "parking lot" :giggle :happy I took a 24"x24" 1/4 inch piece of plywood and mixed sand with paint and spray painted it flat black to make it look like asphalt. What do you think? This was only a quick test image but do you guys think it has any promise??? The background image is from California :giggle
I won't PS it next time.

I bought all of my materials from Lowes. One just opened about a mile from my house :happy Plywood was $3.99 pre-cut, spray paint was $1.39 for one can and the sand was free from the beach.

I took a few more, but for some reason the files are huge! I still need to practice with the angle of the camera relative to the trees too :giggle

I used some old primer I had laying around(kitchen remodeling :giggle) and painted the plywood with it. Then I took the sand and spread it over the wet primer making sure to cover every bit of the primer. After you're sure you have all the areas covered with sand, firmly press down with your hands to make sure the sand has stuck to the paint/primer. After 4-5 hours slowly dump the excess sand off. Wait 24 hours before spray painting! :cheers

Looking good, Bro! My wife was looking at the pics and asked if it was a model or not. Looks convincing to me too!!!

Summer! :happy :happy :happy No more freezing cold mornings... No more ice on the windshields! :happy :giggle

I'm going to try this again but with a better background. I need to have the trees be aligned with the plywood but it's not an easy thing to do! :giggle

Very cool Justin! :cheers Thanks for posting it! Just yesterday, I saw some expensive black sand at HobbyLobby and I thought why not just get the "free" sand and paint it? :giggle

That background works beautifully. Great idea for the road too. I tried using sawdust by coloring it black but it looked rubbish. A little fence on the side of the car could add a little more realism.
