Is it a Kyosho or a HotWheels?

I just received my first Kyosho model - a red Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona coupe - for my collection of 1/18 scale diecast Ferrari models, otherwise mostly Bburago and Hotwheels. Just opening and closing the trunk, it's plain to see the difference.

What puzzled me, though, is that the package said Kyosho AND HotWheels.

So what's the deal? Is it a real Kyosho, or is it a re-labled HotWheels? Anyone know the story?

It's a Kyosho, but since Kyosho has a sub-license under Mattel's exclusive deal with Ferrari, they've gotta place a HotWheels logo on their Ferrari boxes.

It should be immediately apparent to blind freddy which version is Hotwheels and which is Kyosho...

Kyosho Datyona = looks like it was made in Japan by precision equipment operated by labcoat engineers

Hotwheels Daytona = looks like it was made by drunken ex. nuclear submarine sailors on the same tools they use to make tractors

Oh and the Kyosho is about 3x the price.

(I edited your post as we have some very fine collectors from the country you identified earlier. It's not nice to take shots at other countries just the same way you wouldn't want others taking shots at your country...whatever it is. Thanks for your understanding. :cheers )

:iagree That's it exactly. I think you might also find the Hotwheels logo on the boxes of Kyoshos Ferrari 308/328 range as well, for the same reason.

This is this wonderful Kyosho version:

The Hot Wheels version is horrid.

Yep, that's the one. I was amazed by the detail, down to the carpeted interior and trunk, the solid opening features, and the heat shielding on the inside of the hood. Beautiful.

And yes, the difference is clear to see, but the labelling is confusing nonetheless.

The price difference is noticeable too, but you get what you pay for.
the kyosho is very nice.... really worth the $$$ if u asked mi

They can put Hotwheels logo all over the outside and inside of the box and bottom of the model if they want and if they provide a fake tatoo of their logo, I'll put it on my forehead for a week...just please, can we have a Kyosho-made F40 in 1:18?
