Just Ordered the GMP C5

Well, I took the jump today and ordered the new 1/12 C5.
According to GMP they will be available around March or April.

I asked about making a custom version of the car, one of a kind (small production run).
They told me the approx. cost... and it got me thinking... if we get about 50 people that are interested we could make our own custom 1/12 C5 for about $150 (approx) plus the $599 cost of the car to make our own. Anyone interested???

Let me know as I am pretty serious. In other words, if you want in, say so.

If I get enough people to reply to this I will get an official quote, lock down the pricing and collect deposits.

As I was planning on getting one of these I would be interested in three of them. :cheers

Please explain a little more on the custom/very own part. As well as the $150 extra cost. :feedback

The only way I will cough up a deposit for that amount is if I have a guaranteed, confirmed delivery date in writing on letterhead.

If the aforementioned terms can be met, I'm ready to place my deposit. :cheers

Please let me know something asap.

Does our "custom" come with a trunk full of Benjamins? :lol

$750 is a tad steep. I can buy two Macs for that.

:cheers

Custom, meaning our very own design, or color, or mods (only 50 produced by GMP). I would place the order and secure a contract to lock down delivery, price etc...

How cool would it be to contract the mfg. to make a car.

The deposit will be like this... I will base the final price off 50 ordered cars. If 50 people say they are in, the deposit will go into escrow. If someone at the last minute bails on buying the car, they will lose their deposit and it wont affect the other 49 orders. The deposit will cover the cost of Tool changes and does not affect the number of cars purchased, only the painting etc...

The current C5 has a production run of 2001, would you pay an extra $150 (approx) to have 1 of 50?

That is why I'm asking though... I want to see if there is enough interest to warrant an order.

If so than... :cool

If the one person bails, that leaves 49 who are waiting on a model. Who gets the 50th model :feedback

Will all the designs be the same or can each of the 50 cars be customed to the owners specifications. :feedback Also, who will make the design the livery :feedback

I have a ton of questions I guess.

If someone bails on one, then the production run would be 49 (or find someone immediately to purchase the 50th).... Here's the catch though, everyone that signs up will be told the production date. They will have to cough up the coin for the remaining model cost at that time. We can set up escrow at a bank to verify that I'm not a deadbeat, or I can work it out with GMP to collect the funds... etc...

As far as the car, they would all have to be the same car, livery etc... If it gets enough interest, I suppose we could vote, or pick a color and each get to pick a diff advertisement sticker etc... I hadn't thought this through yet.

I really wanted to see how much interest if any existed...

I would also make GMP sign individual letters of auth. as well as a gaurantee that these would be the only ones. color etc...

I'm interested. :cheers

As the livery will be the biggest momentum builder, I would personally like to see one of these models with the DX logo on it. :happy

c'mon guys and gals, crack them piggy banks open. :happy

I'm going to the garage and get my hammer now. :lol

An idea is born... and so there are 2. (Roadtrip and DX)

I'll need to lock down pricing, in fact I could probably get a price break on the cars etc... if I ordered 50 at one time. No problemo though. I would be willing to do less than 50 as well, but there is always a breaking point for a price on interest :cheers

I want three total. :cheers

3, Seriously???

That will amount to approx. $2250.00, once everything is figured out.

I haven't decided on how many I want yet, but this makes at least 4 confirmed. If this gets momentum I'll get everyone's phone number and start collecting info. etc etc...
G
I'm interested in the choice of livery as well. :feedback

If at all possible I would like to get #1 and #50, the third # doesn't matter. :cheers

Well as I wanted number one as well... I decided they will not be numbered. This way there wont be an issue with who's got which. There will have to be a plaque however to identify that it is authentic, which I will take care of.

:cool
G
If their not numbered that kinda defeats the purpose :confused

What will the certificate of authenticy read :confused

1 of 50 :badidea

Considering me and you are the only ones talking about it, we may be getting these all by ourselves. :happy

i''l take the odd numbers and you can have the even numbers. :lol
We can number them, but the #1 and #50 car would hold more perceived value than the others. We could always draw straws or create a series of numbers that mean nothing, only identifying each individual cars existance and to verify forgeries... each owner will have a list of actual numbers and who owns them...

As far as the purpose... There will only be 50, no more than that. That should be sweet enough.

Maybe we should talk... You may be right :cheers

No doubt the 1:12 C5 will be a fantastic car and I would love to have one. I would also love to have a DX special of some kind, but I don't think at this price point there will be much interest. Perhaps there is a 1:18 out there we can customize to do a limited run of. :confused

:cheers
A little too rich for my blood, though a one year anniversary DX edition in 1:18 scale would be cool. :cheers :cheers :cheers

Maybe find a company that specializes in promotional pieces to add some graphics to a Maisto Porsche, Hot Wheels Ferrari or Ertl Corvette and make a limited run of those available to DX members. I would be interested in that as the price would inevitably be 1:10th that of what you guys are talking about.

Just an idea from an always budget conscious collector :danbanna :danbanna :danbanna :danbanna :danbanna
