I actually had this model sitting underneath my desk for the last month or two, arrived with the last Modellissmo order. I did not want to spoil the introduction until I had installed the 16" BBS Uli Nowak wheels I recently ordered. The goal here was to keep the classic feel of the M1 but enhance the exterior with a classic wheel design by BBS. I think I did well!

As mention these are Uli Nowak wheels - 16" BBS RS style with Gun Metal centres and BBS logo. Installation was a tad challenging, if you choose the 16" diameter the front and rear suspension require a bit of shaving to allow the wheels to fit just right. Also you need to remove the OEM caliper and associated hardware. Uli supplied the wheel adapter pre-drilled and off centre. This allows you to align the wheel with the proper drop. Unfortunately their isn't enough space to all calipers. You can add rotors but I opted out as I felt it would look cleaner without them. Other than accidentally breaking off the passenger side mirror the install went smoothly. I'll fix this on the next Modellissmo order. Enjoy the pics!

Very well integrated - the BBS sure make a difference. Got some talent there Davide
Thank you, but it really isn't too changeling... Credit should go to Uli Nowak, they understand each brand and develop parts to fit, that makes things a lot easier. I recommend them them highly!

Now that's a stunning looking M1, nicely dropped and rolling on THE wheels of that era.
In fact I would leave the mirror off ... it only adds drag to the car right ?

No, honestly I wouldn't think twice about having only the driver side mirror ... I know in the early Eighties my parents bought a new 5-Series ... and the right hand side mirror was an option in fact ... so I think it might even have been an option on the M1 too ... hey, even the Testarossa had only one mirror at first.

Imagine this in black rolling on BBS wheels with gold center ... Eighties here we come !

That looks great. I am still on the fence about adding that style of wheels to mine. Seems easy, but seems easy to screw something up.

Thanks! If I can do it anyone can!! I'm OCD complaint, must have things near perfect or I can't sleep. Just watch out for that damn passenger side mirror! A Dremel tool is a nice have for shaving down the suspension bits!

Well, you are right I guess, in all the photos I've been able to see there is a passenger side mirror, so it must have been standard fit, a but strange as the M1 was built between 78 and 81, when the second mirror wasn't legally necessary yet ... probably BMW did fit it already to comply with future laws.

By the way, just ordered two sets of wheels from Uli Nowak too ... I got two sets from UTLmodels but they don't fit my Lamborghini project, the tires are way too high while the 18-inch wheel is just too small ... so $70 that I will need to find another purpose for ... too bad, they do look nice.

The great thing on the Uli site is they give the exact diameter dimension with different tires fitted, so I was able to get a set that should fit my project perfectly, and with a great looking 5mm deep wheel up front and a stunning 7,5mm deep wheel at the back in the classic BBS LeMans design :

And only €25 for a set of four with tires, that's a very nice price I think, can't wait for them to arrive.

That is a classic wheel the BBS LM design. I used another BBS from Uli the the CH to replicate my 1:1 Audi TT Coupe:
