With the end of this very popular TV series in the UK, I thought I'd do a little homage.

As the programme was set in 1973, all the following cars were current at the time and with me, at my advanced age, they were everywhere, where I grew up!

First up, a real Gene Hunt moment - Vanguards Ford Cortina Mk III 2000 GXL



Next, a Vanguards Ford Escort Mk I 1300 E, resplendent in "Purple Velvet"



Turning away from Ford, a Hillman Avenger Tiger, in "Wardance Red" complete with obligatory black bonnet.



All three are recent Vanguards releases. Not the greatest of models, there are a couple of quality control issues. However the castings are pretty accurate, and to my eyes, are cracking subjects.

As I don't have any recent offerings from BL or Vauxhall from this era - the last three have been with me for some time - but fit the theme nicely.

Vauxhall HC Magnum, Austin Allegro & Morris Marina.

What a great TV show that was, a shame there isn't to be a 3rd series, it was just top notch TV. I hope the reported US version is half as good then it will really be worth watching. :cheers

Ah, but, Gene Hunt is to return next year. Apparently the series "Ashes to Ashes" is set in the early 1980s in London (rather than Manchester) - I've heard the 'Tina will be replaced by an Audi Quattro.

John - if you ever get the chance to see it on TV in Canada - do the BBC have a channel over there? - don't miss it, as it is probably the best series that they've done in ages.

Steve, we have a BBC channel, but I don't have a dish or cable. I checked out the show on IMDB, and it looks intriguing (a cop wakes up in the era of The Sweeney... ooooooh). I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere
