Miami Vice's Ferrari duo

My humble tribute to one of my well loved 80s TV dramas, Miami Vice.

Finally pulled the trigger at least a year after KK-Scale released the Daytona spyder in several colours.

Makeshift backdrop.. Miami Vice's DVD boxset. Featuring Hotwheels Elite's white Testarossa and KK-Scale's Daytona Spyder. And a bonus black 71 Daytona with popup lights.

The In the Air Tonight scene might be one of the coolest scenes in television history.

I saw that scene decades after it was first on TV but if it wasn’t perfect, I don’t know what perfect is.

The "in the air tonight" music video tribute to Miami Vice on Youtube is great! There are couple other short clips showing the highlights from Miami vice especially involving Ferrari car chase which i really like as well.

I was close at selling off the HWE Testarossa at one point when i was liquidating all my movie cars of value. I guess it is a good thing I held back or else i likely won't have gotten the black Daytona spider.

I can't stop looking at this duo of black Daytona's
Cheers Martin. They do look fantastic in black. I normally don't go for black Ferraris but happy to make an exception for this inconic movie car.
Nice pair. 80's nostalgia never fails.
So nice to see these 2 black beauties together!!
Thanks for sharing, Jazzy!
Policemen in snappy suits with excellent music, a trend setter in many ways. :)

Thanks! I always have a soft spot for the 80s and always think of the 80s fondly. I guess what really attracts me are the fashion, culture, music and media from that era. I actually completely forgot about the 80s up until I played GTA Vice city. The game really helped to bring the nostalgia back for me, I started following those 80s iconic movies again and hooked on the pop electronic synthesizer new age etc music and have been listening to them non stop since then.

Thanks! Those black Daytonas with tan interior look mean.

Absolutely, they made Miami from that period looks so glamourous. And for us car fans, the show immortalised the iconic Ferrari duo.

Except then they blew up the Daytona with a missile.

That’s the price to pay when you receive a free brand new Testarossa from Ferrari :ROFLMAO:

Simon! Very nice to see both of Crocket's cars together with your entire backdrop! It looks so organized theme wise with the DVD box sets!👏 Taking me back to my childhood and watching this with my family on Thursday nights!😊🥂
You don’t happen to have a white Countach, do you? There’s a great chase scene with one at one point in the series.

Oh yea that was one of the most satisfying car chase in the series. The Daytona going after the white Countach. Sadly i dont have one heck at the price of this rare unicorn is going i might even have to settle on a Polistil version LOL and believe or not even a Polistil version in crap condition seems to be fetching some $$ on eBay AU nowadays.

I think there was another member showcased the black Daytona and white Countach a while back but i cant remember which thread it was.

Thanks David. I always like that TV series especially the theme music. I love the colour palette Michael Mann chose for it you notice he avoided red competely hence the Testarossa needed to be repainted to white. And while we are on the subject of 80s, two of my top modern media are the Stranger things series with heaps of references to the 80s pop culture and lifestyle, and the San Junipero episode from Black Mirror series.

Now you need to find Tubbs’s 64 Coupe DeVille !
Kyosho is poised to re-release the Testarossa in the near future, high probability of a white one(unconfirmed)

That’s upsetting about the Polistil model. I actually have a black on I got from my BIL who was cleaning out his childhood bedroom. It’s not particularly well done but growing up with posters of them on my wall I was happy to get it. I also got from a Bburago 288 as well that’s dying for a rebuild someday (I’ve got F40 wheels and the Tremonia kit) but that’s going OT.

I wish I felt strongly enough about the Countach to buy a nice model of one. The only other Lamborghini that even interests me is the Jalpa (Phil the Shill!) which I don’t think they’ve made in 1:18.

i think perhaps the reason why Polistil one looks slightly better is due to the size of the tyres. On Bburago they are bit too big for the car hence making it looks immediately out of proportion. I did a size by size comparison of the Autoart Countach vs Bburago and turns out Bburago doesnt look as bad so long i can find donor wheels to slap on.

Interesting that u brought up Bburago 288 GTO. I picked up a pair of poorly treated Bburagos last week for mere lunch money.. and have done some detailing to the 288 GTO so far in between of short breaks from work. the plastic has become so brittle that they snap easily if i am not careful with the disassembly LOL

I completely forgotten about Phil Collins guest apperance on MV and had to look it up. The white Jalpa is indeed a perfect matching pair with a white Countach! Too bad there arent any 1/18 examples yet but i suspect at some point we will see an expensive resin of it popping up somewhere.. The black Jalpa from Rocky 4 is what i can remember. Brief but memorable scene.

A quick OT on the Rocky Jalpa scene. I don't know why but that scene bugs me so much. I mean, I love the scene, the cheesy 80s music, the car, everything, but how does Rocky know how to drive manual competently? In Rocky 2 he couldn't drive an automatic Trans Am without hitting things and we're supposed to believe only a few years later he's driving a temperamental gated manual?
