I got this program so I can resize my photo's "TO THE PROPER SIZE" :ranting & figured how to resize the pic, but still can't for the life of me figure how you actually make the file size smaller! :cry IT"S DRIVING ME NUTS NOW! MPE sucked, the program that came with my camera only makes the pics smaller, not file size, & PS is more like "PITA! :ranting )I was told that IrfanView was a good setup, can some1 just tell me how to get the file size shrunk with it!!!!( Ican get everything else, it's just this file size crap now!!! :nutkick )

Thanks for any help,

Johny

IrfanView 3.95

You have a latter version then me (mine is 3.92). In the 3.92, when you save the pic, you have to specify the save quality, for jpeg and gif files, like this:

Luciano, can it display what the resulting image filesize will be as the compression rate slider is hauled left or right along the bar?

I use Irfanview as well, and it does not. However, shrinking to 640x480, and saving as LUW states has dropped my pic size from nearly 2 MB to the recommended 50-60kb.
:iagree What Tim said.
The final quality of the image is pretty good. I can only get the pic smaller if I use PS.

Thanks for the info :cheers
Ok, now I found it, but have 1 more question, what number should I set the quality at??? when I do this it will shrink the file size??? :feedback
The higher the quality, the bigger the file size. JPEG is a form of image compression, and a lower quality number means it's compressing the image more.
Johnny i keep the picture quality between 70-75%. It keeps the file size between 35-50 kb maximum without changing the dimensions of the picture. You should be there with a little trial and error.

Ok, i did what you said with this pic, does this qualify as a good 1 that will not take up too much file space?(is it a good size or still big? :confused )

Johnny the dimensions are perfert. Just move the slider for picture quality a little more to the left. You have to get the size down from 87 kb to 55 kb. Try a setting of 60-65. Remember that the picture quality sliders work differently on different programs. While on some 70-75 will get you to acceptable size, on others it will be between 60-65. Dont worry about how the picture will look. It will only reduce the picture quality marginally and it will not even be noticeable.

Ok, I resized the file size again(noticed that I should always try to keep a full size pic to work from, if I keep resizing the same pic over & over it will screw it in the end! trial & error :giggle ) Is this in the 60kb limit :danbana I think it is!?!?!?!
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post][/right]
Yes you're right Johny. It's now 60kb for attachments. :cheers
