Hi all, I'm new to this forum, and relatively new to collecting 1:18 scale diecasts. Anyway...

I'm a big RX-7 fanatic, so naturally I picked up both the Ertl Fast and Furious models, plus the green Eibach springs model. The models are average quality, but I really hate the stupid decals.

Searching the forum, I found this thread:

http://diecastxchange.com/forum/viewtopic....7&highlight=rx7

Seems this Rat character ;) has removed decals from quite a few cars... and I'm interested in doing the same. A few questions.

What chemical to use? I've seen fingernail polish remover mentioned as well as acetone free decal remover.

Secondly, will the paint underneath the decal be effected in anyway, will it need to be buffed or anything after removing the decals.

Thirdly, since I'm a student and have a pretty tight schedule, is this a fairly simple process, or more involved and time consuming.

Thanks for the help.

Taking the tampos off is very easy. You need some non-acetone nail polish remover(NPR) , Q-tips & a disposable rag or old shirt. Don't get the NPR on any chrome or glass. Apply the NPR on the shirt or Qtip and start wiping away at the tampos. It takes some elbow grease to get them off. You won't hurt the paint. If you want, practice on a 1/64 Hot Wheels car to get the hang of it.

Thanks guys, for the advice and the welcome.

I'll be picking up some NPR after work today. I'll let you know how it turns out, maybe post a few pics.

Well, I removed the graphics from all three cars, and they look soooo much better. It only took a couple of hours too. Now I just need to do something about the wheels. :? I think I'll look into the 1/24 scale Jada wheels. Black wheels would look nice on the orange 2F2F car.

Thanks for the sugestions guys, it worked out great. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.
