Comparison of the Autoart's Porsche 928 and MCG's 928S. These are my favourite front engine Porsches from the 80s and the silver 928S made an appearance in one of my top movies of all time, Scarface.

Also just realised after I took these photos that the white Porsche has attracted dust over the years even after it has been in the sealed cabinet all these while. Just like what my mum used to say, these diecast cars are truly dust magnet

Great comparison @jazzy426!! One of my favourite Porsches! Love the pop up lights on the AutoArt. And the seam lines on the AA front and rear end make the diecast look poor, but match the actual car! It was a nice touch. Overall the MCG shape wise looks pretty good.

I can’t believe that the 928 is over 40 years old. It must have been a complete wow at launch. They’re really cool. The earliest versions are my favourite. I have the AA but in blue and it’s certainly among one of my favourite diecasts. :)

Yea i think the seam lines were done that way on AA to replicate the actual car. The panel gaps on the MCG one looks shallow but that is typical on most sealed diecasts. I guess one could improves it by painting the lines black to give them a bit of highlight. Overall I too am satisfied with the overall shape of the MCG version and it weighs a lot too. Much heavier than the MCG 924 Turbo.

I imagine the crowds must be very excited when the 928 was first revealed at the car show back in the day. It looks futuristic and i think it still does to this day. I remember the silver 928 well from childhood because I had a silver 928 toy car which transformed into a simple transformer and the shape of the car wowed me. I didn't know what Porsche was back then but loved the shape of the car. I would love to have the blue 928 too but all of them regardless of colour are going to mega bucks nowadays.

Very nice. I'm trying to remember when the Porsche appears in Scarface, because I remember Michelle Pfeiffer more haha.
😁 Can't blame u mate she was a stunner in the movie. Tony went to the Porsche dealer to buy the 928 in order to impress her. Here is a snippet of the clip
The 928 also made another appearance later in the movie when Tony escaped from the assasins at the Babylon club. it was short but the intense music and the headlights popped up when he drove away from the parking lot is one of my most memorable scenes.

Exactly. I too have it in blue by Autoart. Not my favourite colour but my most favourite model. Autoart still beats MCG hands down. The pop up head lights......🤩🤩🤩
No doubt AA wins each time especially with their older releases during their golden era. I love the popup headlights mechanism, a little toggle underneath which spring the headlights up.
However I also remember that back then there were unsatisfied collectors complaining about some of their QC issues around the 928 i.e. missing headrest etc. Similar QC issues applied to other Autoarts from similar era too I guess no one is immune from such defects.

Beautiful! I love that style of Porsche!
It always has that futuristic look IMO even to this day. I will always gather around the 928s during German car shows they are such cool car.

wow! I didn't even know the 928/928s had even been made in 1/18!
The silver one just edges it for me, I think it's the wheels.
I think so far we have 3 928s in 1/18 if I am not mistaken. The first fully opening diecast by Autoart then followed by the resin version by LS Collectibles and the latest one is the sealed diecast by MCG as shown here.

I love the Autoart 928! Such a well made model from the old days when Autoart really cared kkk. And your mum was not all that wrong, in fact dust adheres to metal in a way.
Absolutely. Love these Autoart models. I guess I will need to dedicate some time to properly spring clean my collection. A lot of them have been sitting in the closed cabinet all these years but dust still managed to get through and sit on them.

And a sealed resin 928 GTS by GT Spirit as well as the odd looking Premium X 928S Kombi

Ah thanks for the input. I forgot about the GT-Spirit's 928 GTS. The Kombi just looks "wrong" for me personally LOL. I also remember the 924 (or was it 944) Kombi presumably made by the same company? They are one weird quirky looking car

Ohh is it? I was unaware. I just checked my model and, thank god, it does have head rests on front seats. I hope the complain was not about rear seats. I do not know if my model is from the corrected batch or something.

You are correct. Every model has some small bits here and there to complain about. More the price, more are the complains as expectations grow steep. I am content with what I can get as I have to live with a scale model only. If I wanted "THE PERFECT" model, I would look for the real car. Only if I had that much money😂.

I think those are rare and only in extreme case where missing bits were not picked up during QC and get shipped out. So far there has been threee instances where the BNIB models which I bought came with missing pieces. One is the Autoart's Porsche 914 with missing side mirror which I was fortunate enough to get replacement from Autoart spares. Another was a HW 246GTS, missing spare tyre and one exhaust tip. The most recent one was the CMR 250 GTO came with one missing exhaust pipe
