went to 2 different stores yesterday....
It seems that there WILL be a price increase for Autoart cars....

around maybe SGD$20-SGD$30..that's ard 12-18USD$.....
it ain;t chump change...

:cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :cry

one store i went to will be raising it's prices throughout all brands... which totally sux

but the other retailer told me it i wll only affect AUtoarts... and that he'll keep the current stock of cars at the same level but once those old stocks run out, new stocks that come in will have to reflect the changed price.

This is because Autoart themselves have raised prices on their cars, so retailers have to do the same. this is total crap....

Price increase will start on the next shipment of cars.... including the Merc 190Es, the Bugattis... etc... etc.... sigh...

better grab what i can b4 that happens....

While I can understand the need to raise the price to cover expenses, this big of an increase is crazy!

I don't see how they expect to get that kind of money when the market is so slow.
It seems to take only weeks for new releases to be drasticly reduced now and this higher price will only slow down sales even more.

I wonder how many dealers will try to raise prices across the board and try to profit off of this on older cars?

Increase in the price of plastic and metal is the root cause for this increase but I think the official price hike is going to be somewhere in Jan 05. I am not sure why the prices have been hiked in Singapore so early.

I most certainly AM going to stick around with all this suspense going on. :happy :happy :happy

If 1:18 and 1:43 get too expensive, my Plan "B" are aircraft (thanks for the temptations Ken) and bikes (too many thanks to go around....the guilty parties know who they are)

I was thinking about something(danger zone)...

I do believe life comes full circle.

Remember not long ago the moaning and groaning about sellers who were selling models below retail and in some cases below wholesale.

I wonder if this price increase will yield them customers who swore they would never buy from them.

I'm really hoping I won't have to go to Plan "B" Pavel. The main reason is that I adore aircraft (mostly military) and I don't have a lot of space for them. **If** I venture into them, I'd look for pre-built ones. If I am not mistaken, there are some really good ones made mostly of plastic. By the way, one of my (many) favourite planes is the MiG-29 Fulcrum. I love the lines of that aircraft!!! I used to have a model of the MiG-25 Foxbat but that plane is not as elegant as the Mig-29 in my opinion.

Do you collect planes by any chance?

Speaking in general terms, I work in an industry that relies heavily on steel prices and the world steel prices have astronomically gone up in the last 2-3 years.

Depending on the type of steel, it has gone up as much as 300% in the last years.

Many blame the situation on China as they were a primary exporter of "cheap" steel. Due to their own internal growth, they are no longer exporting much of this cheap steel so the world prices have gone up to reflect this lack of supply. It was always underpriced so the market jumped on this opportunity.

Most industries have held off increases during the first years of these increases hoping it was just a blip but there are no signs of the price going down. So when they finally increase their price (steel surcharge) then it is to compensate for many years of increase or even future forecasting. The same can be said about oil that affects transportation costs around the world (fuel surcharge). Any industry that buys steel or uses freight are very familar with steel and fuel surcharges nowadays...costs that will be passed on to the end user.

I have no insight to the diecast market and why their prices are going up but I just wanted to shed light that increases in many other industries are WAY MORE than the forecasted AutoArt increase due to steel prices.

I'll believe this price rise when I see it. A local hobby shop owner I was talking to recently (in Dublin) said that all the importers of AUTOart, Minichamps and so on in Europe have seen sales drop massively the last time prices went up and pretty much all that is selling is the likes of Maisto and so on. AUTOart and the like are too expensive already.

I was also talking to the owners of St.Martin's models in London and they said the same thing. UK prices are having a big impact on sales. Obviously as a business you charge what the market can support, but if sales are already dropping because your prices are considered too high then I don't see how they can even keep sales at the level they are at? :confused

The 190E and Bugattis I believe are Millennium edition models, if AUTOart do increase the prices of their models, they may just make many of their new releases in the Millenium line to reflect the price increase and offer the Signature edition models at an even higher price (the 787B I believe will be the first Signature edition model)
