I've got a donor Maisto Murcie and thought it might be neat to convert that into a Krohn Barbour Murcie (American Le Mans Series). The only wing I've got could be yanked off a Maisto CLK GTR (Original Teile). The multispoke wheels could be from a donor CLK DTM that I have.

Any thoughts on how feasible of a project it may be? I've never done a custom job by the way. Making the decals could be quite "interesting" too.

WOW :danbanna :danbanna :danbanna
Good luck mate, you'll need it :scared Looks like a hard job to me!
(widening fenders, cutting out front intake etc :giggle )
BTW I shouldn't use CLK DTM rims, but Audi R8 rims. They're perfect!
Again, good luch on the project, can't wait to see the result!!! :drool

:iagree with Bart on using the R8's OZ Racing rims - they're identical to the real car's wheels. I do think that the most difficult part of doing such a mod will be widening the fenders and the axles.
Thanks Darren for your thoughts on the OZ rims. Any suggestions (or links to info) on how one would go about doing that type of work? Is there putty of some sort that can be easily shaped and primed for painting?

Thats gonna look great! I don't mena to hijack your thread, but.... How did the R-GTs do overall this year? Just trying to get a general sense of their placings when raced against the likes of the C5R and the Prodrive Maranello.

Felix, how do you plan on doing the skirt? That and cutting the front intakes and widening the fenders would be the biggest challenges in my opinion. If you can, though, it will be one of the most coolest mods ever.

At the American Le Mans Series race yesterday (in Mid Ohio), the R-GT placed 4th in the GTS class. The two C5Rs came in #1 and 2 with the Saleen placing 3rd. The second R-GT that was to race had a differential problem and did not compete. There were no 550s in the race yesterday.

http://www.racingfanatics.com/ALMS%20MO/dick%20barour.htm for a great interview with Dick Barbour about what their team faced in getting ready for the Mid-Ohio race.

That's what I'm struggling with right now. Those fender flares are wide and I need to figure out what to use for the front air splitter.

I really should have said that I'm assessing the feasibility of doing this. My bad! :giggle But considering my donor cars are Maistos, my potential downside isn't that bad nor costly.

Not a easy task, as these two models are not the easiset to work with.

Those wheels on the CLK are not like any other wheels Maisto makes. They are rather difficult to work with as you need extensions because their extensions are so short.

The Maisto Murc, has a funky wheel set up on the rear. It has those three prongs that are specifically for that wheel pattern design. I have always hated this as I have wanted to mod a Murc with some wheels.

I say take everything apart, see what your working with and then you will know what your working with.

When I was working on a technology project in high school a few years back, I used a 2-part epoxy resin putty. It comprises of an adhesive and a hardening agent that have to be mixed together. You should be able to get it from a decent hardware store. It's not too difficult to use even with inexperienced hands - you just have to apply it gradually. Its hardening time depends on how much of the hardening agent you put in in relation to the amount of adhesive. It can harden much more strongly that ordinary plastic and it can be sanded down and painted over very easily too.
As for a front splitter and the rear diffuser, you can cut sections from the baseplate of the Audi R8 models - they have very similar shapes and the can easily be attached to the underbody of the Murcielago model.
You'll need a different engine too but this would be fairly easy as the Murc R-GT's engine is a development of the engine in the Diablo GTR.
To solve the problem of the front axle when the fenders are done is to take the front axle and steering wheel/column from another mid-engined Maisto model that has a wider track than the Murcielago. However the problem is finding a model that has the same steering column length and position in the cockpit. You may be able to use the interior and steering assembly from Hot Wheels's Diablo GTR but I'm not sure if their axles are compatible with Maisto's wheels.

Felix-good luck guy. I think in the long run, you'll see either Minichamps or AUTOart release these by the end of the year. AUTOart already has the GTR, so it's not a stretch to think they wouldn't.

Good insight Mike. For the money I have to put into donor cars, I could then likely buy an AUTOart R-GT. :giggle

Actually the CLK-DTM spoiler couldn't possibly work. Its just not wide enough for the trackbase of the Murc. His best bet would probably be a Diablo GTR wing modded to have correct pylons.
I understand CS_Gt's point to be in reference to the rear diffusers at the base of the car rather than the spoiler. I hear your point all the same about the CLK DTM spoiler not being suitable. Thanks gafotes. :cheers
