Review: Norev S Class Cabriolet

I had not seen anyone post a review, so here is mine of the Norev S Class Cabriolet

First off, I will say that out of the box, it is a nice looking model but the ride height is just terrible. That being said, it is an easy fix that only requires a couple of small washers being placed at all point of the suspension. The beauty of doing it this way is that the car can easily be returned to its original state if desired. The pics below are a before and after shot of this simple, yet effective mod.

Moving forward, the matte paint finish is interesting and different for sure. I would say that it is actually a very light grey and not silver (easy to see with this when comparing the front airdam and window trim color). The dealer version of the model comes in the excellent Norev "showroom" box, has a handling glove included, convertible top, and even a screw driver). I personally feel that the shut lines are fine but I know many complain about this on Norev models. As I bought this from Modelissimo (along with two other models), I thought the price was great (this model was 73 Euro [$79.00 U.S] after the removal of VAT , the additional 10% discount for mentioning DCS.com membership and 1/3 of the fixed rate shipping cost-the day I was charged the dollar to euro exchange rate was .92 to 1.00. I have seen them selling for FAR more than this on ebay.

Another great thing I found with this model (when compared to the coupe version) is the fact that Norev went with the "AMG style" front/rear bumpers and the side skirts. I give the car a much nicer presence in my opinion and sportier look. One thing that Norev did that perplexes me is that they molded the car with the "fins" on the side skirts but didn't bother to paint them the same silver color as the front air dam; on a real S cabrio with the amg package, these are done in silver. Anyhow, this was another easy fix…I used testers buffing metalizer and painted them myself.
On the inside, the car is just amazing….the decal work is astounding and all the finishes look great in my opinion. I have decided that the only other changes I will end up making to this beyond the AMG wheels I have on it now and the dropped suspension will be changing the grill material out under the star with some P.E black mesh I have coming, possibly painting the roof red, and making a new set of AMG style exhaust tips once I get the GT Spirit S63 coupe when it comes out in silver. I have already added an AMG badge in the rear and S63 script (P.E Items).

For me, at the price I paid, the model is totally worth it! Though it is not an "actual" AMG version, it is such a close representation with the changed bodywork (compared to the Norev coupe) that only a true MB fan would know the difference.

I'm seriously impressed with this cabriolet. Norev hasn't failed yet. I may have to add this beauty when I can find a proper source around here hahaha. Beauty of an addition and nice touch with the paint and ride height. It's much improved!!!

Aren't there real life Mercedes with the "AMG Package" that adds all the AMG body/trim stuff (even badging?) but not any of the actual horsepower or mechanical tuning the real ones get?
Yep...before I did my review, I did a bit of research on the MBUSA website. While the Cabriolet is not yet officially for sale, I built a coupe on the site. The Norev model is done with the "Sports Package" option. For just shy of $6000 you get the side skirts and bumper like an actual AMG car (without the brightwork fins on the side skirts, so technically Norev was correct in having them body color) and you get a front bumper that "mimics" the look of an AMG car. When compared side by side, its easy to spot the difference (see pics below).

S63 AMG

At any rate, I think simply lowering the ride height and changing out the wheels made all the difference in the world. While I wish it were an actual AMG version, I'm perfectly happy with it because it is a VAST improvement over the regular body Norev used on the coupe version (though now that I've placed the wheels from the cabriolet on it, I am actually kind of digging it and will likely keep it).

I will be getting the GT Spirit S63AMG though for sure, very excited about that model.

Thanks man! It was seriously a great deal from Modelissimo. I will be posting another review of the Minichamps re-release of the SLR-roadster; it (if they still have any) was marked down 50% off (then add in the subtraction of VAT and an additional 10% off for mentioning your user name if you are on Diecastsociety.com), drops the price down even further. When all was said and done, the SLR roadster (with the flat shipping cost split between the 3 models I ordered) was just under $60 U.S. It was also a model I had been wanting for a while, but the cheapest I'd found on ebay for just under $100 shipped from Germany; most are selling for at least twice what I paid, so I couldn't pass it up! To boot, the order was here in 6 days. I know people have said the site can really inflate pricing, but If you are diligent and check it frequently, KILLER DEALS are to be found for sure. Aside from a bunch of ebay bargains I've gotten in the last month, Modelissimo has become my favorite website to shop from.

Jase....seriously.....$60.....

Way to take the money and run buddy!!! That's awesome!! I will have to check out modelissmo again and see what they have.
Hahahaha, no...the Minichamps SLR roadster was just under $60. This model was $79. To me, its still FAR LESS than I've seen them selling from other diecast dealers and ebay sellers. I dont mean to sound like I'm promoting another diecast site on this site, but the extra 10% off for mentioning your diecastsociety.com user name when you place the order is the key. And again,to get the most value out of the deal, its best to order at least 2 or 3 models since you are paying one flat shipping fee. I ordered 2 other models at the same time, so the price I stated reflected 1/3 of the shipping cost(that part of the order does not get discounted) It's a 29 euro flat fee which, with the exchange rate lately, is around 31-33 dollars for up to 44lbs of weight or 1,000 euro order value.
