Picture theft by scumball ebay sellers....thats what :badidea

Checking Ebay today , I came across the pic shown below , which I am 99% sure is one of Ronans fantastic pics , but I couldnt see his website address as the Scumbag has removed it.....not that you would ever tell though .

The sooner everyone follows Felix into stating Ebays picture theft policy on their websites , the better . I hate the idea that some low life is making a profit from a genuine collectors love of this hobby .

I fell so sorry for Ronan , hes a great guy and doesnt deserve this crap .

Heres the link to the auction and Ronans altered pic.

I really hate this kind of stuff.

Whats wrong with asking the owner of ths website (Ronan) for permission? Leave the website name on the pic so that it wouldn't look stupid (as this one) and then in the description just say "the picture courtesy of Ronan's website etc etc" Whats wrong with that??

There should be something done about it...

That really sucks... Not only are people making profit out of pics from normal, honest collectors, but also this particular pic doesn't show the same car as the guy is selling. Ronan's pic shows the 'normal' Minichamps Capri RS release, while the seller sells the Car Collection version, which is way cheaper and way less detailed! So you can say he is a crook :tempted
And then the way he shamelessly took the name out of the pic :pullhair Someone please shoot him!

This is the question I posted to him. Lets see whats his reply.
"Why are you stealing pictures from websites. Don't you have the common courtesy to request permission from the owner of the site to post his pictures. Your attitude is highly unethical and a very bad manner to do business at other people's cost. I will be never buying anything from you no matter what."

The credit for that wording goes to Kelvin (kkwhung). :nicejob :nicejob I got permission from him to re-use that wording and post the link. I really like that wording as it is very firm. The link also means there's no ambiguity with eBay's legal stand on the use of unauthorized photos.

I'm almost tempted to post that wording up at the very top of each page instead of at the bottom. But it just doesn't look good up top. Once I've given fair warning to visitors to my site, I will enforce things to the fullest limit available to me.

This is so tiresome. All I would like is a bit of courtesy from these idiots. How hard is it to ask permission, or why not just take a picture of their own model. A**holes :ranting

I'm too tired to do anything about it today (I've just been stuck in a huge traffic jam for the past 3 hours on the M40...) but tomorrow I'll have to add some strong words on my site.

I posted a very similar question to him as well. I would recommend that everyone do the same. What an %$&*! This kind of thing really gets to me.

I have used other peoples pictures for my eBay auctions before, but ALWAYS with permission! I have had people steal mine before like this as well, then get pissed at ME when I confront them with it -- telling me that I should feel "flattered" that they wanted to use it. Good thing they were not standing in front of me saying the same thing! :giggle

Ronan, sorry to see you going through this type of thing over and over again. I know it gets tiresome after a while. :WTF

Question to all the webmasters: Have you guys ever thought of enabling 'right click protection' on your sites?

I have it on the DX Homepage, its not a cure all as it can be defeated, but it will make theives work a little harder to steal what they want.
