The AUTOart thread gets quite a bit of reaction, so I thought I would do the same with Minichamps since some of the prices for past releases are going through the roof.

Two Ford Escort RS2000 models to start with.
ebay numbers 154731484441 (€579 used) and 284507051606 (€649 new)!
Shipping extra.

I was going to include the street version of the RS1800 which also goes for silly money, but there are none for sale at the moment.....

I think the sold price is more relevant than any random asking price :)

I think the 1:18 Minichamps Mercedes trucks are selling in the 500 euro plus range. For example the blue one with the trailer, and the fire truck with that 1.30m ladder!

Other than the trucks the car models have in general not appreciated in value like the AA models have. In particular the Bentley Continental models can still be found for the mrsp around 100 euro. The Bentley Blower and the State limousine are in the 250 euro range maybe?

The Brawn GP and some openable F1 models (FW14, Lotus 79) are selling in the 250 euro range?

But again, 250 euro is nothing compared to the 700 euro Autoart McLaren F1 or Alfa 33 stradale.

So also for a Mercedes Benz 300 SEL in racing colors. All are north of 300 USD for a fully opening version. I am looking for an Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 in either red or white and those are upwards of 200 USD too.

We can also have another thread to cover Kyosho next hehe. I feel that Kyosho also seems to be taking similar route as Minichamps although they might not look as bad or as greedy though.

Personally I find Minichamps models tend to be one notch below Autoart i.e. Autoart would have given the model full window treatment, realistic looking headlights without mounting stub being visible and convincing chrome effect etc where as some Minichamps models lack those features or chrome trims are simply painted on. And I think the market value reflects that to some degree unless it is an unique model only Minichamps made.

I have a few older Minichamps in my collection which have since appreciated in price but i dont think they are anywhere near the crazy amount some Autoart has set. Models which i have, Maserati Ghibli, classic "G series" Porsche 911 Carrera, Porsche 924, Fiat X1/9, BMW E32, 300SL, 190SL, Bugatti Veyron etc.. Out of all i suppose the E32 might be the that used be in high demand but considering the recent re-release that should ease the demand somewhat.

The rereleased 300 SL Roadster is going for Eur 200. That's double the price of the original release.
Anyone know if there have been any upgrades to the model?

No idea why Minichamps thinks they can charge what they charge, their quality doesn't even come close to justifying the price of admission.
That is not what this thread is about though. It's about people / sellers asking crazy prices, or Minichamps models that sell for crazy prices.

The Folmer Porsche 917/10s (first series) have been amongst the most desirable Minichamps aswell as some of the Artcar BMW series. That said the Mercedes SLS Black series and many of the first series 300SL Gullwings have also become expensive too. Like old diecast Autoarts the first series Minichamps models offered an excellent range of vehicles; even some of the old catalogues are collectible.

Other than those, the Audi 90 quattro is sold for 400 euro. Nice looking race car!
I paid almost 600 Euro (670+ USD) for mine. I absolutely was not going to lose that auction (I am an idiot) :ROFLMAO:.

Beautiful model. The engine and interior details have much more finesse than the standard minichamps stuff.

Special nod to the early Mercedes 300 SL gullwings. Especially the ones in silver.

I sold my grey Minichamps Bentley Brooklands for nearly $600 to a collector in Europe. I have about three more Minichamps Bentleys that have been sought after but I haven't decided to put them on the market yet. I can't remember the exact models, but they are '90s or early-'00s Bentleys I believe.

Score, that is a nice amount of money you got for it!! That model has had a high sale amount for as long as I can remember! I've often fancied getting one, but it's always expensive!

A few noteworthy Minichamps, sold by German eBay seller "bm-modellshop" today (all prices without postage):

1) '89 Audi 90 Quattro #5, who says racers don't sell well? € 655.00

2) '88 Audi 200 Quattro #14 T/A, another one to confound the naysayers: € 593.00

3) Bentley Brooklands, great looking 2-door coupe but I could never see the appeal of these ugly pimp wheels Minichamps chose for it, € 354.00

4) Bentley Arnage, nice green color with no rash apparently, went for a fair price especially considering how unspoilt it looks. € 212.00

5) '69 Maserati Ghibli Coupe, went for a good sum I think, € 323.00

6) '70 Maserati Ghibli Spyder, surprised it went for only half the price of the coupe tbh, € 157.00

7) Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series, € 378.62
1:18 PMA / MINICHAMPS Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series 2013 / LA 185 | eBay

I have to be 100% honest here, I can't understand why this model is so sought after. I wouldn't pay more than €100 for it, tbh.

I mean, it's just a "regular" Minichamps SLS with a body kit. It's got the same dog leg hinges on the doors and the same solid grilles everybody hates on the regular SLS, yet everybody seems to think the "Black Series" is ultra desirable, probably the same people who wouldn't pay anything for the regular SLS, which is a lovely model I think - I have two of them.

And a few more racers that sold pretty well, I think.

8) '93 Audi V8 Evo Procar, € 221.00

9) '92 Audi V8 Quattro DTM, € 223.00

10) '90 Audi V8 Quattro DTM, € 238.50

11) 2010 BMW M3 GT2, € 200.77

Some of the resin ones that come on the numbered cobblestone patterned base are very rare... I remember the Hispano Suiza Dubonnet really disappearing when I bought it in 2017, some shops wanted several hundred for it already. I don't see any completed listings for it now. All of the '90s Bentley Continentals - green R, red T, blue SC - are long gone too, the green R is the rarest, although I did get this blue SC for msrp fairly recently (December 2020).

Yeah, but that's asking price. That seller is a comedian, he's on my exclude list on eBay exactly because his asking prices are beyond ludicrous!

The ones I posted were sold today at the price. ;)
I anticipated this when adding the thread.
I wrote in the header that asking price be included as a source of a laugh at the neck of some sellers.
We can all use some humour to brighten up our day..... :giggle:
