Good question. I could use a good explanation of that process too. All I know is that etching is normally referred to a chemical process where acid and wax are use to create a texture on a piece of e.g. metal, glass. The was is used as a mask-off the areas where you do NOT want the texture created. Perhaps with photo-etching, laser is used in place of acid to create fine patterns.
