This is the worst car in my collection. Paint, stance, shape, detail, panel gaps - all horrible. I only paid $7 CDN for it and I still feel violated. When I look at it I get the feeling it's laughing at me. Rest assured this will never see the light of a display case. :ranting

Hot Wheels could certainly do better, but I have several of their models which are pretty good, especially for only $15. In general, their models, like Maisto's and Bburago's, are hit or miss. Sadly, no one else makes the newest Ferraris in 1/18 scale.

RichardM - you can't really complain for 7 dollars!

Apart from something being amiss with the back wheel, its by no means the worst 1:18 i've ever seen.

I bought the 1:18 Hot Wheels 360, 360CS and Maserati Quattreporte, and to be fair for budget models they are not that bad (They can be displayed next to high-end models). However, if Kyosho, AUTOart or Minichamps/PMA made these then i wouldn't have bought the Hot Wheels.
You can't complain that you feel violated until you've paid 25-30 quid for a Hot Wheels (US$45-50). :giggle

Hey, crap is crap - at the end of the day it stinks and has to be scraped from the bottom of your shoe. My point is, I will no longer buy this garbage because Hot Wheels is the only one who makes it. I can vote with my dollars and I choose to do without. Besides, I can't afford all the cars I want, never mind diverting dollars to this garbage. Anyone wants this POS, pay for shipping and it's yours.

I really didn't intend this as a rant...

Sadly that is true. It is quite similar to Ferraris in videogames. EA and very few other companies have had Ferraris in their games. Sony and Polyphony Digital have been trying to get Ferraris (and porsche and Lambo) in the GT series for years. Even GT4 doesn't have it. Apperently GT5 will have Ferrari though. It took them nearly 8 years just to get Ferrari and Porsche (no word on Lambo). I wouldn't be suprized if it takes at least as long (if ever) for AUTOart/Kyosho to get the rights to produce modern Ferraris. :cry
Ferrari seems too greedy.... :ranting

i'll put my $$$ on a Porshe or RUF instead.....
i hate Hot Wheels cars...they are utter crap..esp when they cost so much here...about SGD$59-SGD$69 for one.... more then Bburagos and Maistos.... me thinks they charge more cos they are the only makers of Ferrari cars

WOW - I don't think that HWs are in any danger of winning most popular brand on DX! :giggle

With some of you there seems to be a genuine hatred towards these models!!! :lol

Jim,

I only speak for myself when I say this. A few months ago, I went on a tirade about the 360 CS by Hot Wheels. Not necessarily because the model was crap, but moreso, my hopes where high as I patiently waited for this model. I don't know if my anticipation brought on hopes of AUTOart quality/detail, but I was not satisfied. The stripe on this car ruined the entire car for me..but thats just me.

In the beginning we all started from somewhere, and for a lot of new collectors as we all were at one point, the Hot Wheels brand was the model of choice. So the brand does serve a purpose and does it well as there are many collectors who got into the hobby due to the Hot Wheels brand.

Hate...in my case thats not the right word. I just want a new stripe on my 360 CS :lol

I too speak for myself on this, but these budget models is what fuels the hobby.

It might be crap to some, but a start or an anticipated addition to others.
I might go against the grain on this, but I am a quantity collector. I appreciate quality as much as anyone here, but I am willing to buy anything that is/appears to be a reprecentation of a 1:1. The one thing that I am not tolerant of is off-scale like the 1/20 Bburago F-150 Lightning. It is still in my collection, but it would take you a while to find it.

Since I work in the 1:1 car world, I compare it to it. Would it be a wise decission for Toyota to make only LS430 and LX430 or GM to make only Hummers and Corvettes? No, they have to make Acho, Aveo...to get people in a car, create brand loyalty and move them up in their lineup. GMP is a perfect example of this.
Other know theirplace in the market and constantly try to improve their brand but do not go upscale. Kia and Hyundai in 1:1 and Maisto in 1/18 come to mind.

I think that as a we have grown up in the hobby, the wealth of knowledge that is shared in sites like DX has been a bleesing, but it can become a curse. The knowlegeable in the hobby are few, compared to the vast majority of the poeple that buy diecast. If the Diecast makers were to make cars just to please us here, they would go broke fast. Just looks at the Pub car. Tom-C-Toys was not able to sell out a 502 production run to a site that has a membership of 1000+.
The lowly Ertl that I happily bought in the early 90's have not diminished in my eyes just because Lane and GMP has made a better effort.

The one thing that I can say about Hot Wheels is that they do not sit and take shelf space like some other brands do at big box stores. They quickly dissapear. I did not realise this until I asked Darrick about what he thought of the white '05 Corvette. They were everywhere a week ago, and now they are all gone.

I see a not too far distant future in out hobby that there is going to be two or three consolidators that will buy the niche makers and offer several brands from budget to high-detail, like GM does from Chevy to Cadillac and Toyota from Scion to Lexus.

That is my :mine so take it for what it is worth. :lol

Al,

Sorry to hear you missed out on that Corvette. But for some reason, that color casts a spell on people. :giggle

You make a really good point about some key companies having to consolidate if the brand name is to live on. We have already seen it with Minichamps being acquired by Action-Performance and from the looks of things there is going to be a few more following this path.

I do believe as a collector matures with knowledge and exposure to better quality and detailed models and they become less fond of the budget models. I am guilty of this sinful pleasure myself, but is not only normal but a natural learning process. So I truly understand and see both sides of this coin clearly.

In the end, I just want a new stripe on the Hot Wheels 360CS.
