The UT McLaren is a great collector's item. However, some feel it could use more detail than it already has, such as the brakes, the interior, and the ugly plastic in some areas. It is a mostly rare item, so the question is, would you modify it?

If you already have, please post your pics! :happy

:feedback

:giggle BTW, this one's not modified.

That's the big question. If the model was damaged in any way, I wouldn't hesitate to mod it. If the model is mint and you paid a relatively low price for it (less than $40), a good mod job may not be a bad thing as it will increase your enjoyment of owning the model. If the model was purchased on a secondary market at a typically inflated price, your chances of recovering your investment are drastically reduced as soon as you remove the shipping straps, let alone dismantling and altering the model. :cheers

Even if it wasn't in excellent condition, I still would never touch it, no paint, no detailing! :lol :cheers

You mean like this?

THis was done to a "parts" McLaren F1 that I have. I just wanted to see what it would look like. I think itk looks good as a "Muscle Machines" caricature.

thanks

I have a silver UT F1 roadcar someone kindly helped me to drop onto the floor. :crying Rear engine cover broke off, one door had a broken joint, some paint chipped off the rear of the car. . . of course I have to fix it. . . someday. What color looks good on an F1 ?

BTW, this happened a long time ago when they were still easily available, so I just went to the store to get a new one :happy

I've seriously thought about it, but all the circumstances would have to be in line. 1. Have to get it at a good price. 2. It would be a less rare version. 3. It would be something clean like a monochromatic paint job and wheels that flowed with the car 4. I would have to be ALOT more confident in my painting skills. The thought is always in the back of my mind though.

Hey, Nocky. I like that :cheers :cheers

As for me, I don't have one and I probably won't mod one for a while if I got one...

well arent Minichamps bringing out a 1:18 Mclaren F1 this year or next?

if they do, then it will likely be a superior model and in turn the UT's will become worth less in my opinion, so in the event that they do release one i say go for it.

^once those Minichamps hit the market, UT ones will loose value as some of them already started having problems such as melting wheels!

I did it several time, and there is a chance that some more two roadcars come soon in my collection. Surely a white one and a Yquem (like did Raidou)

I've had some mod ideas already. i reckon you have to love the car more than the diecast to consider customizing it. if i had the time my projects would have spawned a few special gtrs here and there. In my personal sentiment though, i would just put in detail that wont damage the car like wiring and carbon fiber decals but i would have to find a cheap "extra" gtr to do major mods like repainting and added body detail. knowing that minichamps will have new and hopefully better releases, i dont think i can add more detail unless it's something not released like an all black LM gTR

That has to be the longest sentence I have ever seen typed up on DX. It just keeps on going!
