i quite like the aesthetic of this concept even though i didnt know anything about this model before. Funny thing about some concept car models, they tend to have concealed engine bay. Perhaps the concept car itself doesnt already have a running engine and it was a secret back then when the scale model was being commissioned so no engine can be shown?
You brought up an interesting question. I don't know enough about the Escala to tell you if it was a fitted with an engine, but it is not uncommon for a concept car to be created without one.
 
Gorgeous model and your photos are excellent. Yes, it's too bad that the hood doesn't open, but one additional feature of this car that I would like to mention is that the floor of the luggage area rises when the lift gate is opened.
