One of the best parts of getting a new model is learning the history of the car it is based. In this case, the Ferrari GTO started life May 1963 being sold to Col. Ronnie Hoare of the UK. The first year it was raced throughout the UK with Mike Parkes, Jack Sears and the great Graham Hill behind the wheel and accumulated many wins.
At the end of 1963 the car was rebodied by Scaglietti to the Series II body style. The car would continue its winning ways until the 1964 24 Hours of Le Mans. Prior to the race, the hood scoop was added. For the race, Innes Ireland and Tony Maggs raced the GTO to a 6th place overall.
The car continued to race through 1965, unsuccessfully. The car seems to still do runs at the Goodwood revival. It should be easy to spot as it retains the Series II bodywork and its unique red and blue livery, and those great looking blue wheels!
