The Land Cruiser 80-series is one of my favorites SUV of all time so I was very excited when I heard KengFai was releasing the “high end” version of the Land Cruiser 80 in 1:18 scale. Previously the only 1:18 option was the one made by Road Tough which was OK for the price, but it was obviously a budget model.

The good thing was KengFai releases several color options along with off-road package options. So there were a lot of choices. The only thing that bugs me from those releases are the body graphics. I don’t think they made one with plain body. So I had to pull the trigger on the green one and ended up “down spec” it so it looks more like a base trim Land Cruiser, especially since it already sports the steel wheels.

I removed all the body graphics with non-acetone NPR and repainted the door trims flat black. I also blacked out the center part of the front grille and the hood ornament. This may come down to personal taste, but I prefer the downgraded look on my 1:18 afterward.

This 1:18 is made to a very high standard and the suspension details is amazing. Proportion wise it’s spot on as well. One downside of the car is that it’s very brittle and I had accidentally dislodge some parts of the suspensions just handling it. Also the interior color scheme isn’t accurate in my opinion. They center part of the seats needs to be also grey but different hue. That may be a project down the road.

First, here is the car in its original form (image property of KengFai, not mine).

Amazing pics, David! Especially the group shots with the new Land Cruiser and the Defender, that's quite a display! And you did a really fantastic job with the re-paint on that 80. Myself, I jumped on the green off-road edition with all the bells and whistles; I couldn't resist it. But I definitely understand your preference for the clean version, it's such a handsome subject. And I love the license plates! Well done!
This isn't David by the way :) ;)

Thank you, much appreciate the kind words.

I love the off-road edition as well! And I was actually debating whether to get the green off-road or the normal version. I ended up going with the normal version since it reminded me these Land Cruisers when they were new and I saw the everywhere growing up in Asia.

Great set of pictures @tanayast , looks cool with out the decals. Somehow for the LC200 Kengfai gave the decals separately which i chose not to apply on the model and looks great without them.

The copper exhaust is treat to watch and so is the under chassis.
Thanks!
Yes that would be VERY neat if they include the decals as optional on the 80-series!

Very nice addition! The details are great on it. Your touch ups are nice especially getting rid of the stripes. Looks cleaner now. I always found the hood ornament to look odd on it, but then again it's of its time. This would pair up perfectly with AA's Wagoneer!
The hood ornament I think it's only for certain markets.
But I truly regret missing out on the AA Grand Wagoneer!!

First off, GREAT JOB on your detailing Stefanus!! Man seeing your shots makes me want to pull mine out (in the same color) and get my shots done! I have been asking for help to take my diorama on location for over a year, but can't get help to move it. UGH!
It's such a detailed model, KENGFAi have done an outstanding job! I just will probably leave mine as it is, but I would like the upgraded wheels and a wee bit more chrome trim on some areas to match N.American spec'd LCs. that said, None of ours had the standing symbol on the end of their hoods, So I just might have to accept it as it is, but your transition looks AMAZING! 👏 CHEERS! David!🥂😊
Thanks Dave!! :)
KengFai indeed ups their game big time and really gave the premium & established model manufacturer a run for their money!
