I'm modifing a wheel to fit one of my ERTL models. As per a guy at Hobby Town I used this stuff which didn't work.

It lasted for 5 rolls of the wheel and then it fell apart. I was able to peel the glue cleanly off of the back of the wheel so there was vertually no bond to the surface. I did no prep work just stuck the glue to one surface and clamped together over night. Full bond for this glue said 2 hours.

So what do you wheel mod guys use for a good strong bond?

Here is what I'm glueing together

I like my modded wheels to be able to withstand weight of the model and being rolled.

Thanks

I use Super Glue gel, a little more forgiving than regular Super Glue.

Plus, you will never get anything to stick to that silver-painted surface. You need to lightly sand that part to remove the paint and get down to plastic, then just about any glue will keep them together (plus you might try lightly sanding both parts on a level or flat surface - lay the sandpaper on the flat surface, and run the part over it - so that both faces mate up perfectly).

Not familiar with the two-part epoxy you show there, so can't comment on it, however.

Let's see what those custom wheels are going onto!

Don't know what that salesman was up to but you certainly did not need epoxy.
That is better used for small chipped areas that need to be filled in and sanded rather than a glue.
ibj has the right idea.
Of late we have also been getting a liquid superglue but its bottled as oposed to tubed and comes with a lid fitted brush similar to nail varnish.
This is great as you can apply very small quantities and get access to difficult areas.
Remember with superglue you need very little applied as long as you get full cover of the areas to be stuck. In fact the less you apply the better the adhesion.

If you are trying to glue your fingers together, it is almost instantaneous. :giggle

Two pieces of properly prepared plastic should fully bond in about 10 to 20 minutes, tops, depending on ambient temperature.

Good Luck!

Whoops looks like I posted in the wrong place, sorry Darrick.

Anyway looks like the super glue worked, at least so far, only time will tell. I had to lift the back end a little since the wheel offset is more. The wider tire was rubbing on the wheel well.

Here's what I have now

Thanks again for the help
