What's your most hated design elements of cars you actually own in your collection? This doesn't include defects or damaged diecast.

1. Jada Concept Camaro...this car is so out of scale it looks ridiculously large when placed next to any car in my collection.

2. Bburago Reventon looks much too small next to all the Murcielagos...unfortunately, there's no local place that carries Mondos

3. Any sedan where the rear passenger doors do not open. This probably annoys me more than a sealed car as you can tell right from looking at the car that one set of doors opens and the other does not. A least a sealed car is consistent!

This topic has the potential to get really negative really fast. But here are my peeves:

- Big plastic engine cover on Hot Wheels Enzo. Would have been a fairly nice model with metal.

:hellno

- Any front tires that rub on the wheel wells when turned to left or right. Really interferes with my childish delight in "driving" my models on the coffee table. (Revell Mythos is one such offender.)

- Lambo doors that won't stay up. (Is there something I can do to the hinges to fix this?)

That's all that's bothering me about my models. Just to keep the tone upbeat, I think I'll start another thread of favorite features...

I have modified the springs of my AUTOart Murcielago. My Diablo 6.0 doors stay up so no problem. The Diablo GTR and Murcie doors wobble but that's ok as long as they close perfect with accurate panel gaps.

Anyway, the thing that I hate is the Maisto Gallardo doors open very little. Both the Spyder & Superleggera. I wish they had done something with those hinges to open them wider. Aslo, the engine cover of the Spyder doesnt have holes.

Mainly poor panel gaps in the interior and wheels that are clearly not in the needed position i.e. too tall springs and as a result a massive gap between the wheel and the fender :hellno

Plastic bumpers on all of my AUTOart cars. They're all a different shade than the metal bodies and look terrible under certain lighting conditions.

Hot Wheels Enzo wheels. Too small and the tires are too thick(sidewalls) while the tires are way too narrow(width).

Maisto Corvette Z06. The plastic roof. Why, Maisto? Why? It's a different shade than the rest of the car and breaks too easily.

GMP Pontiac GTO 6.0. I love the model but the rims are way too large when they are supposed to be 17's. Also, the rear track width is too narrow while the front is too wide.

Maisto Mercedes Mclaren SLR. The cheap looking interior. They later came out with a dark gray model that has the proper black with red interior. Why skimp on the silver and black cars?

Those plastic bumpers really are a drag.

Decals also get my goat. Often they go on crooked, and eventually they start to peel if you don't clear coat them. I guess it isn't such an issue anymore as manufactures have moved to tampos. But some old Bburagos I used to own (and used to like quite well) took on a somewhat trashy mien due to their degenerating decals.

I have two version of the Ferrari 330 P4 from the defunct Jeouf-Evolution. On both models the rear axle is set too far back from the centre of the wheel well and the engine cover isn't hinged, its only held in place with two pins.

Models that don't have 'glass' all the way around, only the windsheild and back windows. Makes for easier dusting with windows all rounds.

And yes, the plastic engine cover on the Hot Wheels Enzo. Too many plastic body parts on Hot Wheels models. This ARE supposed to be diecast, not plastic molded cars. Also the cheap stearing mechanism on earlier Bburago Ferrari's that have a flexing tie rod instead of a proper pin connection.

The engine cover on my 1/12 Motormax Ford GT Concept will barely open up to let you see the engine. It should lift up almost vertical.

My biggest hated design is the reason I make resin parts. I can not stand to open the hood on any diecast car and see either a fake engine molded into one piece of plastic, or an engine that does not look at least a little bit realistic. Why can't they make relistic looking parts for their engines? :WTF:

I'm surprized no one's really mentioned shut-lines on the exterior - I guess maybe just me then?
Really irks me when they're too large and I'd almost rather have no opening parts than super-unrealistic shut-lines.
For example, the shut-line round the front of the 1/18 Bentley Brooklands bonnet/hood seems a bit too large and, for me, even though I love the car, is enough to pass on the model. :storm
Oh and... also, misaligned body panels/opening parts should be included in this category for me.

Otherwise... scale issues - if a model is not in proper scale (every other bburago)

Oh, and awkward looking wheels with any sorta camber to them (the one that comes to mind first is the Die Another Day 1/18 Aston martin vanquish by Beanstalk - its rear wheels really looked awkward)

I'm not super nitpicky though... I think... as long as the proportions are accurate and the model isn't suffering from any of those said problems, I'll let it pass.
The cheap CHEAP looking/feeling cheap versions of hotwheels 1/18 cars are case in point here - I don't mind them at all because most of them get the proportions/etc right (the 430 Scuderia especially in my opinion) and look just fine sitting next to others from a distance.

This is a great topic.

Mines would be (mentioned before above)
Wheels that don't turn enough or rub against the wheel well. Its not that i play with them but just bugs the hell out of me when real cars can but the models can barely turn ><

Other then that i'm not really picky about my models :D

1. Use of DOGLEGS on recent models :confused

2. Doors that don't shut properly/misaligned

3. My Kyosho F40 front wheels turn very2 little (with hood closed) & i don't think it's even connected to the steering wheel.

4. Doors/hood that open very little, e.g doors on Maisto Nissan 350Z S Tune, Lambo Gallardos.

Point 1&2 I experience a lot with many Hot Wheels Elites (e.g 1966 TV Batmobile, Testarossa, 250GTO, 250gt Lusso) :)

:cheers

I actually forgot a really strange one....not most hated but really bizarre and not the greatest of design choices.

The Ertl - Casino Royale Bond 1/18 Aston Martin DBS vehicle has something I've never seen before. It's not possible to see through the rims of the car because the rotor and the area around it which is normally air is all one piece of plastic with the "air" area being black painted plastic. I don't know how else to describe it but it's the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.

Listen...no...READ this Minichamps and AUTOart!!!

I don't like decals on new models, even less when they are poorly applied!

You made me spend a lot of money in the Ice Pol porsche and the 1974 Porsche 911 RSR and I had problem with the decals the very first time i got the cars out of their boxes! :rant

I got rid of the Minichamps Porsche cause it was heavily affected, but I kept the AUTOart Porsche cause I could fix it with a bit of Micro Set...

ehh, I can't bear doglegs and light stubs on models that are supposed to be premium or high end (pleas read this Mattel)

I don't like the new tendency of "diecast plastic with metal parts" that a lot of manufacturers are applying nowadays the color mismatch annoys me!

I don't like the wire metal stuff on the Mazda 787B from AUTOart
I don't like the screw system to secure models to the boxes, most of the times the holes or mounting posts interfere with the design of the undercarriage...
I don't like MM boxes!
Ride heigh anooys me too, please Exoto read this...
Bad tires ( norev please you too read this)

And what annoys me the worst is to pay big cash for a sealed model....why you ruined the Le Mans Peugeot making it sealed??? why???? AUTOart, why did you pick the best looking models and designs for your nasty "Motorsports" line???
I don't know, there could be more but I don't remember, maybe they aren't that bad...

ufffff!

Most already mentioned but;
Spend extra for the AutoArt Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster, take it out, open the door (took some playing around at that), plop!! I mean, come on! Would be nice to display it with the doors open, but NOOOOO!!!!

Hoods and boots that don't stay open. Again, spend decent money on a premium model, plop! How hard is it to have a simple stop or a touch tighter hinges so they stay open.

Oh, the blanking screws securing the model to the base that are so tiny yet seems like the hulk tightened them down.

Finally, non opening trunks, not on the really basic models but on some (many) Revell, Ertl Muscle and a few others. I'd rather pay a few extra dollars and be able to open the trunk!
